Blue Light Special

The first few days home have been adventurous around the Savage home. Val is continuing to feel better and better with each day. Having Mimi here this week has been a huge help and has allowed Val to rest and relax while Phoebe sleeps.

Phoebe had a difficult time learning how to feed in the early going, but she has steadily improved over the past 42 hours in particular. Her bilirubin levels were slightly elevated when she came home from the hospital (not unusual), and they continued to increase into the beginning of the week (likely due to the feeding learning curve). As a result, her pediatrician ordered phototherapy, which we are able to do at home (instead of at the hospital, like Greg when he was a newborn). So, Tuesday afternoon the technician brought the lightbox in which Phoebe has been happily sleeping since (see pic above - thanks Mimi for the blog title inspiration). Nurses come each morning to take a blood sample and then take it to the hospital for testing. With yesterday's test, the bilirubin count had already started to drop, and the physician is hopeful that today will be the last day of phototherapy. The benefit of the light to help Phoebe's little body is a reminder that our only hope is found in the Light of the world, Jesus Christ.
